Create a film showcasing a new JLL designed building at the renowned Chivas Brothers site in Dumbarton, Scotland. The film was to be cinematic and identify key points raised by the end client including sustainability, impeccable design, people at work and an emphasis on the historic branding. As the piece was being made for JLL it was important to incorporate their brand values, with a onus on ‘the brighter way’ capturing natural light when possible.
We arrived at Glasgow airport early and took the short trip to Dumbarton where the huge Chivas Brothers site stood. We spent the first day filming every inch of the building from textures, to people, to branding, to wide gimbal shots of the majestic themed rooms. An element we wanted this film to have was almost a mysterious one, with little teases of parts of the building to build intrigue and excitement. We did this in the form of extreme close ups of objects and structural elements, reflections as well as unusual angles incorporating negative space.
The next day was spent interviewing individuals sharing their stories and insights on the building, We decided to record audio only, with a voiceover providing a powerful sound bed underneath shots of the interviewees navigating the space. Together with shots of staff working and smiling and the varying interesting spaces on offer meant the film could progress smoothly without the need to cut back to a talking head interview, giving the film a more cinematic feel.
As mentioned in the brief, there was a necessity to capture the building in a way that matched the end clients brand guidelines. This mainly took the form of light leaks, sunshine and natural light. In amongst the downpours of the typical Dumbarton weather (so the locals said) we managed to capture some wonderful sun beams bursting through the clouds and onto the magnificent building. We shot as much as we could during these sunny intervals and it definitely paid off. Not only does it look great but the client was very happy.
Overall we are very happy with the outcome and thoroughly enjoyed bringing this creative project to life.
