Brief
Smart Energy GB wanted a fun and memorable way to promote the smart meter rollout. We collaborated with Russ Bray, the iconic PDC darts referee, to create a comedic sketch built around a simple idea: even in retirement, Russ can’t help calling out his energy costs in the same booming style he used to announce darts scores.
Delivery
Filmed in a hired house with rigged lighting and Cooke SP3 cinema lenses, we used a handheld approach throughout to give the film a natural, unpolished feel that suited the comedy. A focus puller ensured the visuals stayed beautifully sharp despite the relaxed style. The entire sequence was storyboarded and filmed without Russ first, giving us a clear blueprint before he stepped in front of the camera. The finished film ran as part of a major campaign for Smart Energy GB, including a slot on Sky Sports.
